2014 Richmond II: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Short Trackin' At Night...Justin Allgaier will make his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start in the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) this Saturday night. He finished 21st in his first NSCS race at RIR in April. Allgaier has 10 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) at RIR, with one top-five and three top-10 finishes at the 0.75-mile oval. Steve Addington, crew chief of the No. 51, has one win at RIR, with Kyle Busch in 2009. Saturday's night race is the ninth of 10 night races on the NSCS schedule.

Meet Justin...On Saturday, September 6, from 3:00 - 3:20 p.m. EDT, Allgaier will visit the RIR Kids Zone for a Q&A and activity for kids 12 and under. He will also appear at the Team Chevy stage in the RIR Fan Zone at 3:50 p.m. EDT for a Q&A along with Kyle Larson.

Atlanta Recap...Allgaier made his first NSCS start at Atlanta Motor Speedway last Sunday. Allgaier had three practice sessions at the 1.54-mile track and qualified his No. 51 Auto-Owners Insurance Chevrolet SS 31st prior to the start of the 325-lap race under the lights. Handling issues early in the race forced the HScott Motorsports team to lose multiple laps. Unable to gain his laps back after the handling improved, Allgaier finished in the 26th position in the Auto-Owners Insurance Chevy.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Atlanta, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Richmond International Raceway:
"I like racing at short tracks, so whenever we go to one I feel like it gives me a little extra confidence. This weekend is my second time racing at Richmond [International Raceway] in the Sprint Cup car, so I know what to expect with the car. This time I can focus on getting the car tuned to the track instead of me just trying to get acclimated to the track in the Cup car. Our short-track program at HScott is really good and we've been making gains on it each time we've been to the track. A top-15 finish and bringing home a clean car would be great this weekend."

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Richmond International Raceway:
"This weekend is Justin's second time around at Richmond [International Raceway], so he knows how the car should feel there now. He seems to favor short tracks and Richmond is one that he really likes, so that's always a positive for the weekend. Everyone at HScott Motorsports has been working really hard and we've been making a lot of gains over the past few weeks. If we continue what we have been doing, I fully expect us to have a top-15 finish."

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former Nationwide Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
