I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT

Tri-Hard: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) engineer Nate Horn will compete in the Wisconsin Ironman this weekend in Madison, Wisc. Horn, who will be the third CGRFS teammate to compete in the Ironman Triathlon, will strive to complete the grueling event that consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon-distance 26.2-mile run. Team Target INDYCAR driver Tony Kanaan (Kona, Hawaii Ironman) and CGRFS Senior Business Manager Brad Zimmerman (Tempe, Ariz.), are the other two teammates that have completed the Ironman triathlon.

A View from the Inside: This weekend at RIR, you can get a peek into the cockpit of Larson’s Target Chevrolet during the race courtesy of an in-car camera brought to you by Target and Sunoco.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 Cessna Team

AMS Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) took to the 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) for the Labor Day weekend race and the Oral-B USA 500. Starting from the 15th position, McMurray quickly gained positions moving into the top-10 before the team’s first pit stop. Track conditions changed the handling of the Cessna Chevy dramatically and McMurray battled a car that was tough to handle through the center of the corners. In the closing laps, the No. 1 team was able to pit under caution for four new tires before two green-white-checkered attempts and gained several positions to bring home a 12th place finish.

McMurray at Richmond: In 23 previous starts at Richmond International Raceway (RIR), McMurray has led 25 laps, earning four top-10 and one top-five finishes. He has an average starting and finishing position of 22.3 and 22.0, respectively. McMurray’s best start of second came in the fall of 2011 and his best finish of fourth came in the fall of 2013. McMurray has completed 8,711 of 9,209 (94.6%) laps of competition at RIR. McMurray started the spring race in seventh, and finished in 13th.

Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team

AMS Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) spent Labor Day weekend at the hot and humid Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS), for the penultimate race before the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup grid is set. Kyle Larson earned a starting position of third for the Oral-B USA 500 and raced in and around the top-15 for most of the night before finishing eighth.

Larson at Richmond: Larson has one previous NSCS start at RIR, which came earlier this season. Larson started the race on the pole after qualifying was rained out and lap times from the first practice session were used to set the field. Unfortunately, Larson was involved in an incident going into Turn 1 of the first lap and almost immediately dropped to the tail of field. After the tough start, Larson continued to race hard, and came away with a 16th place finish. Larson also has three NNS starts at RIR, with an average finish of 8.6.

A Shopping Bullseye: If you have made it to the race only to find out you’ve forgotten to pack a few necessities, there’s no need to worry. For all your last minute needs, and forgotten items, Target has all of the essentials and more. There are two Target’s located near several miles from the track. Just east of the track, one store is located at 7235 Bell Creek Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, and can be reached at (804) 559-5802. Just west of the track, a store is located at 5401 W Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23230, and can be reached at (804) 285-3492. Call ahead and make sure they have what you need.

ONE TEAM, SEVEN CARS, THREE SERIES

Overall his teams have 17 championships and over 160 victories, including four Indianapolis 500s, a Daytona 500, a Brickyard 400, five Rolex 24 At Daytonas and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
