Spa GT Open Preview

Following the summer vacation break, motorsports activity resumes. The International GT Open hits the track again this weekend for its sixth round of the season, at Spa-Francorchamps. The legendary track in the Belgian Ardennes is considered one of the most challenging and exciting in the world: Eau Rouge, Raidillon, Blanchimont, La Source are the names of some of the most well-known sections of the Belgian circuit, where many pages of motorsports history have been written...

Joel Camathias is ready to take Spa’s challenge, together with team mate Matteo Beretta. The Swiss and the Italian come from a string of very good results (5 podium finishes in the last 7 races) culminated with the great win in Race-1 at Silverstone. In Belgium, the Porsche 911 R prepared by Autorlando Sport will aim at continuing the positive trend, even though it will be ‘loaded’ with a significant time handicap as a consequence of its recent good results. At stake there will also be the position in the championship standings, where Joel and Matteo currently lie in third, 15 points adrift from the top.

Joel Camathias:

“It is always a great pleasure to go to Spa, a fast and exciting track although difficult, where I got many satisfactions in the past, including a class win in the famous 24 Hours. We go there after having recharged batteries with some holidays and determined to do well. We know that, with a 30-second handicap, things won’t be easy, especially in Race-1, but we have a competitive car perfectly taken care of by Orlando Redolfi and his team. At Spa, it is crucial not to do mistakes and to manage well all the variables, including weather conditions, which can be quite unpredictable there. We are not in a bad position in the championship, but I don’t want to think about that at the moment, also because our main rivals are gearing up and entering two additional cars, while we can only rely on ourselves. We’ll do our utmost, as always!”
