Ombra To Tackle Spa With Costantini-Gattuso

The arrival of September heralds the final phase of the 2014 International GT Open season as Ombra Racing travels to Belgium for round 6 of the championship.

With the long summer break finally coming to a close, the members of the Italian team are eager to get back into action on one of the most challenging and respected tracks in motorsport, Spa-Francorchamps.

On the hi-speed layout nestled in the hearth of the Ardennes forest Ombra Racing has a good record, thanks to a podium clinched in last year's edition of the race. Now they are back for more, and to achieve that they can count on a very special line-up.

With both Mario Cordoni and Alan Sicart sidelined due to business commitments, the natural choice for the staff led by Davide Mazzoleni was to pair up Stefano Costantini and Stefano Gattuso on the #63 car, an opportunity both drivers were happy to exploit.

For Costantini the Belgian race will represent the first outing after the terrible shunt he suffered in Jerez. A painful back injury forced him to miss championship rounds in Budapest and Silverstone but after a good share of rest, physiotherapy and then hard training the Italian driver is fully recovered and ready to give his best alongside a quick team mate as Gattuso.

The weekend's schedule will see both Qualifying sessions held on Saturday (at 9.15 and 12.00) and the start of Race 1 is set for 15.55. Race-2 will be held on Sunday as usual, with the green flag at 12:55. Both races will be broadcasted live on www.gtopen.net and on Pan-European network Motors TV. Major national broadcasters will also air the event live.

Davide Mazzoleni (Team Manager): "First of all we are really happy to have Costantini back with the team. His recover was lengthy, but that was no surprise as his crash was one of the hardest we ever experienced as a team. We're happy to see that he's fully recovered and ready to push, and we are as well. Spa is a special track to anybody who loves motorsport, and it's a venue where usually our car performs well so we're looking forward to it. I'm sorry that for such a big event we're missing both Alan and Mario due to commitments they couldn't postpone, but on the other hand that gave us the opportunity to create a very fast line-up with Costantini and Gattuso. Individually they are among the quickest drivers in the field, together they form one of the strongest pairs out there and we'll try to make the most of that".
