A Clean Sweep by JDX Racing and Vinicius Papareli at Pikes Peak

A Clean Sweep by JDX Racing and Vinicius Papareli at Pikes Peak
Following a clean sweep in round four one month ago at Carolina Motorsports Park, JDX Racing and 16-year old standout Vinicius Papareli, continued their domination of the Formula Lites field in what can be considered a 2015 season home race. Papareli and his Loveland, Colorado based team dedicated this past weekend’s pole position, double race win and both Oakley Fast Lap awards to their team partner and close friend, the late Justin Wilson.

JDX Racing arrived at Pikes Peak International Raceway determined to rebound from the devastating loss of their close friend and team partner, Justin Wilson, following an accident two weeks ago at the IndyCar event in Pocono, PA. The weekend began with with heavy hearts, rolling the #28 JDX Racing/Crawford FL15/Honda out onto the tarmac. Having freshly added the memorial decals and the JustinWilsonChildrensFund.com stickers to the championship leading car, the team was determined to dominate, and in doing so, celebrate Justin’s life.

The weekend got off to a good start as Vini boldly claimed P1 in qualifying on Friday afternoon. With a contingent of JDX Racing family and friends in attendance, race one of the weekend on Saturday morning was first up. Vinicius lead the field to the green flag on the challenging 1.3 mile “roval” and proceeded to run at the front for the entire duration of the 35 minute timed event, bringing home his series leading sixth race win of the season. In the process, he laid down the quickest lap of the race, his ninth consecutive Oakley Fastest Lap award.

In customary Formula Lites fashion, the starting order for race two of the weekend features an inverted starting grid for positions 1-4, based on the finishing order from race one. The field of Crawford built / Honda powered / Pirelli shod Formula Lites cars rolled to the starting line and the drop of the green flag, where Vini wasted no time pursuing the three cars ahead. Papareli got straight to work, going three wide into turn three - the fastest point on the track and hardest brake zone - and passing two cars in the process. Within one more lap Papareli was leading the field and would never look back. Showing his true form and continued mastery of the Formula Lites field, Vini claimed his second Oakley Fastest Lap award of the weekend, his tenth straight of the season.

Vinicius commented, “What a tough, but great weekend - and the JDX guys did it again. Luke and the crew gave me an unbeatable car right off the truck, and what an honor it was to run with Justin riding just over my shoulder on the side of the car. I really appreciate the opportunity to represent JDX Racing, and all of the friends and family that attended this weekend. I’m honored I could collect a double race win and dedicate it to such an open wheel racing icon.”

Team co-owner, Jeremy Dale said, “We couldnt have asked for a better result this weekend. This is the most professional and passionate team I have had the honor of working with - I’m just so proud of everyone. The boys had almost two weeks to reflect on the tragic loss of Justin and what better way to honor his memory than with the results Vini achieved. It was pretty tough getting it started on Thursday - but once we got down to business on the track, we realized we had a job to do, and that was to perform at the highest level and come back even stronger after a somber two weeks.” Dale continued, ”By now everyone has an even better sense of how amazing a human being Justin was, and that he brought so much more to the table than just being a great racer. He was an outstanding friend and father, and all of us at JDX will make sure his legacy lives on for many years to come.”

The green flag for the season Finale, Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2015 Formula Lites season are scheduled for Sept 19-20 at MSR Houston, a 2.38 mile, 17-turn road course located in Angleton, Texas.
