2017 Bahrain: Formula One Tuesday Results & Recap

By Mike Sulka

Honda Pathetic, Hamilton Wins Tuesday. Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes were the winners of the first mid-season test day at the Bahrain International Circuit. Hamilton blew the dust off his Mercedes and set the fastest lap late in the day - 1:31.358 - on the Soft compound Pirelli tyre. Hamilton indicated the heat and gusty winds made it a tough lap. The team was focused on improving the rear tyre wear on the super soft Pirelli compound on long runs.

Just behind, Antonio Giovinazzi in the and his No. 99 Ferrari with a lap of 1:31.984. "To drive the car that won the last race and is leading the world championship, working with the Scuderia Ferrari engineers and mechanics, is not just a great feeling, itís a dream."

Sebastian Vettel also turned laps following his Sunday victory, but was two seconds behind and working late into the night and the team not reporting technical feedback.

Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo were third quick after "trundling around" working on aero. The driver also did some long runs looking for some super soft magic.

Meanwhile down in the McLaren Honda garage... Oliver Turvey hadn't tested in two years. And Honda kept him waiting as he "faced a water leak issue from the ERS just after completing the installation laps". Yes, really. Honda commented they thought they had solved the problem over the weekend, and were so sorry they really hadn't.

Honda continues its pathetic reliability issues.

Next up, more testing tomorrow. Same place, same time.
