2017 Charlotte II: Corey LaJoie NASCAR Xfinity Race Recap

While Charlotte Motor Speedway is usually considered a home race for most drivers, it truly is for NASCAR driver Corey LaJoie. The Concord, North Carolina native waited through a long rain-delay before he steered his No. 24 youtheory Toyota to a 17th place finish in the running of the Drive for the Cure 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"This one is on me," said LaJoie. "I asked for some adjustments throughout the race that really just didn't help our No. 24 youtheory Toyota. The JGL Racing guys made some additional adjustments on that last stop and the car was at its best. I also got into the wall a couple times and banged up the right side which hurt us a little throughout the race."

After a five-hour rain delay, Corey would start the 300-mile event from the 18th position as a result of qualifying being rained out earlier in the day and the starting lineup set per the owners points. LaJoie would fire off in his No. 24 youtheory Toyota and sit in the 15th spot when the first caution flew on lap 28. While he reported he needed some more turn in the center of the corner, Corey would manage his No. 24 youtheory Toyota and finish the first 45 lap stage in the 14th position.

With a solid pit stop before the second stage, LaJoie would restart in 12th. While he continued to report that he needed some help turning and getting the rear of his No. 24 youtheory Toyota into the track, he would hang onto his track position as the second stage came to an end.

The remaining 100 laps of the event would find LaJoie struggle a little firing off early in a run. LaJoie would also make some right-side contact with the outside wall with about 50 laps to go which would impact his No. 24 youtheory Toyota. However, the Concord, North Carolina native would continue to battle and ultimately settle for the 17th place finish.

"I want to thank youtheory for their support and the JGL Racing crew for all their hard work," added Corey. "We definitely had speed in our No. 24 youtheory Toyota. I have a few weeks out of the car before returning to close out the season in Phoenix and Homestead."

The JGL Racing team will enjoy a much-needed week off before next heading to Kansas Speedway for the running of the Kansas Lottery 300. The 30th race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday October 21st and can be seen LIVE on NBC at 3:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
